The Refuge.

Gladis is a veterinarian, she lives in Santa Marta, Varadero. From her home she treats the pets of people living locally, helps to run the sterilisation campaigns and has a transition refuge for strays on the top floor of her house. The numbers of dogs living at the refuge can vary. Some come to stay with her after they have been rescued from dangerous conditions living on the streets and often arrive in need of urgent medical attention, they stay until they are adopted either locally or sometimes to other countries. Two of the dogs at present have lost the use of their back legs after being hit by a car. Despite their disabilities we hope they can be adopted and given a home of their own.

The refuge is keep very clean and the animals are well looked after. This is made possible with gifts of food, parasite treatments, and equipment and so much more which has been given by supporters from around the world and The Aniplant Project. In time the rescued animals are sterilised by Vet. surgeon Yohanky. The aim is for the dogs and cats to be adopted which frees up space at the refuge for other street animals that will be brought to Gladis. A number of dogs are adopted to Canada where adoption is easier and less expensive to do than in Europe. If you are interested in adopting a stray from the refuge, please get in touch with us on the contacts page or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/AnimalrescuegroupUK

Gladis has recently constructed a cat "hotel" to house some of the many stray cats bought to her. It's on the top floor of her house alongside the refuge for the dogs. Here is just a small selection of photos. As you can see from the photos the cats are very pleased with their new accommodation. The cats are available for adoption, if you are interested in adopting one of the cats please get in touch.

Uh! what's that dog doing in here?

If you are planning a trip to Cuba, please consider taking dried cat and dog food in your luggage for the animals at the refuge.

No beef or pork please.
